Petite is one of the hardest to dress up and to look for a perfect size for them. As a fashion stylist, it’s an additional challenge for me to dress up such kind of body size. Unlike those who are taller, ready-made clothes won't fit them instantly. It only needs a little adjustment every time.
To give them instant length, I recommend, to fold their jeans at least an inch or use a midi, mini, or below the knee pencil skirt which is perfect for them while pairing a wedges, pumps and high heels shoes.
Did I mention the pencil skirts? Actually this is one of my favorite because of its so clever. It’s one of the staple skirts in the wardrobe. This straight and fitted skirt can be worn for almost any kind of body shape. The triangle, rectangle, inverted triangle and hourglass can all wear it. Although, the details in styling will depend on the shape of the figure and, of course, the occasion where they are dressing.
Make sure that you are buying a comfortable pencil skirt for you. Decide on the length of your pencil skirt and have it shorten if needed. Most likely the flattering length for the petite woman would be in around the knee length or thereabouts. I would say just below the knee pencil skirt is ideal.
Remember, a good pencil skirt should be properly fit but not too tight on the waist and hips. If the wrinkles of the skirt across the hips forms horizontally when you are standing up and if the waistband feels like digging into you means it’s too tight. Also, you should be able to sit with this skirt properly too..
In styling a pencil skirt, a denim pencil skirt is right for a casual outfit. It can be worn with flats and simple tees. For date night, pair a pencil skirt with high heels and cardigans. Add a cat’s eye glasses for a vintage looks. For work, pair it with a three-quarter length blouse and simple pumps for a more business attire. And for special occasions, you can wear a black pencil skirt it with a sequined or charmeuse top and stilettos.
